Eswatini opens cave walk

Mlawula Nature Reserve in Eswatini has opened the Khabane Cave Explorer Walk with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and walk led by King Mswati III. The 2.5km trail takes guests into forests and across rocky terrain before a steep ascent leads them to the entrance of the cave.

The cave was declared a national monument in 2024 after researchers found evidence of human occupation dating back to the Middle Stone Age.

The research, conducted by the Eswatini National Trust Commission in collaboration with the German Archaeological Institute, uncovered direct links to the migration of the Dlamini clan, Eswatini’s royal house currently headed by King Mswati III, into the country.
