Peace Parks Foundation has announced plans to invest US$23 million in developing four national parks in Mozambique – Banhine, Limpopo, Maputo and Zinave – through operational and development funding as well as ecological connectivity areas in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area.
The foundation aims to improve ecotourism within the region with a strategy building viable nature-based tourism economies across Mozambique’s trans-frontier landscape.
Part of the investment involves wildlife restocking efforts with 385 animals, including giraffe, zebra, impala and blue wildebeest, translocated from Maputo National Park to Banhine National Park. Over the past decade, Maputo National Park has experienced steady renewal. After the reintroduction of over 5 000 animals across 14 species, the park is now home to an estimated 30 000 wild animals.
