Steve Fitzgerald’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at St George’s Anglican Church, Parktown, Johannesburg, on Thursday, October 26 at 11h30. The service will be followed by a light lunch at 17 Abbotswold Road, Saxonwold.
Steve underwent a successful heart transplant on September 24 and was well on his way to a full recovery when he succumbed to unforeseen complications, totally unrelated to his heart while still in ICU at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.
Fitzgerald’s lodge, Angama Mara, released a statement saying, “For four weeks Steve’s beautiful new heart beat strongly and we were hopeful for a full recovery. The doctors and nursing staff at the hospital did all they could to save his life. As a family we will miss him most terribly. Angama Mara stands as a legacy of his vision to invest in Kenya at a time when few others had the courage to do so.”
