The International Hotel School (IHS) is set to open a new campus in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape in March this year.
“We are thrilled to bring an internationally acclaimed and accredited tertiary institution to this region,” says John Creighton, the school's Director, adding that IHS is the only institution in Africa rated in the Top 50 hospitality schools internationally.
The school is extending its investment in the local community through a bursary competition, which has resulted in 10 local aspiring chefs receiving a R30 000 bursary with which to start their culinary journey at IHS in March. The winners were also given the opportunity to secure further funding towards their fees by participating in a cook-off, and Lusanda Mafanya walked away with a R100 000 bursary from IHS, to pursue his culinary dream.
IHS is part of Switzerland’s Sommet Education Group, the world’s leader in hospitality management education. IHS has an active ‘Beyond Grad’ division – this a work placement service, exclusive to IHS students.
Currently, the school will offer culinary programmes only, but it plans in addition to offer the full complement of degrees, diplomas and higher certificates in Hospitality Management.
