Industry expects year-on-year rise in bookings

The largest proportion of respondents to our latest poll are expecting more bookings for this year’s December and January summer season than last year, indicating that demand for the region’s tourism offerings broadly continues to grow.

A total of 42.5% of respondents said they expect more bookings for the summer season. Just under a third (30%) expect fewer bookings while 27.5% expect bookings to stay about the same.

Are the North West’s increased fees justified?

The North West Parks and Tourism Board (NWPTB) has introduced steep fee hikes for international visitors across its protected areas, including Pilanesberg and Madikwe.

The NWPTB claims that the tariff hikes, higher than those proposed earlier this year, are necessary in order to fund an estimated investment of around R1.8 billion (US$91 million) to R2.2 billion (US$111.2 million) in repairing infrastructure and meeting maintenance costs in Pilanesberg alone.

We want your views on whether these fee increases are justified.
