Kenya's African Fund for Endangered Wildlife reviews conservation fees

The new fees will be implemented from next year.

The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) Kenya has announced a change to its conservation fees to the Giraffe Centre and Sanctuary.

Effective May 1, 2019, the fees will be structured as follows:

  • Non-resident adults: Kshs1 500 (€12.80)
  • Non-resident child (aged 3 to 12, or younger than 19 years old in possession of a student card): Kshs750 (€6.40)
  • Resident/citizen adult: Kshs400 (€3.42)
  • Resident/citizen child (aged 3 to 12 years): Kshs200 (€1.71)
  • Children below 3 years of age: Free

The Giraffe Centre is one of the few sanctuaries that offers a safe breeding place for the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. The fees raised from guests support conservation initiatives including protection of the endangered giraffe, support for sustainable conservation initiatives in Kenya, and AFEW Kenya’s conservation education programme for Kenyan youth.

Some of the conservation projects include conservation of endangered wildlife to include the African elephant; conservation of marine ecology, and conservation of natural habitats, amongst other projects.

The fees, says AFEW, will assist in providing “a memorable experience for our guests to the Giraffe Centre…AFEW will continue to ensure that we champion for sustainable environmental conservation in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region”.
