Kenya Wildlife Service has launched a major operation in pursuit of poachers who killed four rhinos over the past week.
The rhinos were killed in Lake Nakuru National Park, Solio Ranch (Nyeri), Ngulia Sanctuary (Tsavo West National Park), and Meru National Park. The poachers took off with the rhino horns.
“Security teams are following crucial leads and expect to catch up with the perpetrators of the heinous crimes,” said a statement by KWS.
Since the beginning of the year, Kenya has lost 21 rhinos and 117 elephants to poachers. Of the elephants, 37 were killed in protected areas while 80 were killed outside protected areas. Last year, Kenya lost 384 elephants and 30 rhinos to criminals.
