The new owners of Lalibela Big 5 Game Reserve and Safari Lodge have recently introduced new game to the reserve to ensure that carrying capacity is used optimally. New game include kudu, blesbok, and 25 buffalo.
A project to remove alien vegetation is also under way. Alien vegetation places pressure on indigenous flora to compete for water resources. About 7% of the reserve is covered in alien vegetation and to date, a third of it has been removed. It is an ongoing process that the new owners remain committed to.
Guests are also educated on the project to remove alien vegetation with a short video and Vernon Wait, Marketing Director, said he had received positive feedback from guests.
Wait said the introduction of new game and the removal of alien vegetation led to a better visitor experience, which was an added by-product of the owners’ conservation efforts.
