Mana Pools access disrupted following heavy rains

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has warned that Mana Pools National Park has been severely impacted by recent heavy rains in the Zambezi Valley, leaving most access routes impassable.

According to ZimParks, the rains have caused significant damage to key infrastructure, including major access roads, part of the Rukomechi Bridge and the access road after crossing the Runese River.

Clients with confirmed bookings for April 2026 have been urged to contact the ZimParks bookings office for assistance with alternative arrangements, including rescheduling or credit notes where applicable.

Walk-in and self-driving visitors have been advised to avoid travelling to the park until further notice.

Speaking to Tourism Update, Josie Eveleigh, Wilderness PR Manager and Communications Copywriter, confirmed that Wilderness Ruckomechi and Wilderness Chikwenya in Mana Pools remain unaffected as they aren’t open yet and are set within private concessions accessed primarily by air or boat.

“Unfortunately, for now, self-drivers will not be able to access the camps due to some road and bridge infrastructure damage but those affected can drive to Chirundu and access boat transfers into our camps, ensuring continuity of access and guest experience.”
