Travellers flying to Harare, Zimbabwe, should prepare to have their luggage checked by the Zimbabwean army.
As Zimbabwe continues to deal with a military takeover that has caused panic and confusion in the nation’s capital, comments coming out of Zimbabwe point toward the atmosphere being calm, with business said to be continuing as usual.
While this may be the case – especially as flights continue to operate as scheduled and businesses continue to function – travellers flying to Zimbabwe should know that the military are checking the luggage of every passenger leaving Harare International Airport (recently renamed Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport).
A source, who flew from Harare to Victoria Falls this morning, told Tourism Update that everything at the airport was running normally and that there were no serious delays, although there was a ‘bit of extra security outside the airport’.
“Travellers have to go through normal security in the airport, then are checked again by the military when they leave the airport,” she told Tourism Update.
