Following improved weather conditions in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, and ongoing safety assessments in the Kruger National Park (KNP), SANParks has announced the reopening of selected gates and facilities.
Overnight visitors may access the park via Phalaborwa and Phabeni gates. Guests will need to use the S3 and S4 routes to connect to Pretoriuskop and Skukuza.
Bateleur Bush Camp reopened on January 28. Shops in the northern region will reopen as follows:
- Punda Maria shop on January 26
- Shingwedzi and Mopani shops on January 28
- Letaba shop on January 30
Mopani Rest Camp will reopen on January 30, excluding the restaurant and swimming pool. Letaba and Shingwedzi rest camps, including Pafuri Border Post, remain closed and inaccessible.
In the Marula region, Biyamiti and Talamati bush camps remain closed, while Satara Rest Camp and the N’wanetsi picnic spot are open. Orpen Gate remains inaccessible and may only be used by overnight guests, emergency services and essential deliveries. Guests travelling to Orpen are advised to monitor the R40 around Dwarsloop due to reported protests in the area.
SANParks has urged visitors not to remove barricades or attempt to access closed roads, noting that these measures are in place to ensure safety and allow for infrastructure assessments.
All gravel roads remain closed until further notice. The situation across the park is continuously monitored, and access restrictions will be reviewed as conditions improve and repairs progress.
