Natural Selection to open new desert camp

Natural Selection will open Hoanib Elephant Camp as a sister camp to its existing Hoanib Valley Camp – in the semi-arid Kaokoland of north-west Namibia – in May 2026. It will be located on the northern bank of the Hoanib River, 25km down river from Hoanib Valley Camp.

Powered entirely by solar and supported by a full water treatment system, the under-canvas camp will feature 10 air-conditioned rooms (eight twin rooms and two family units) designed with rammed earth walls, insulated roofs, timber and glass. Each offers a bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a private deck with a plunge pool.

The camp’s main area will feature an open-air lounge and dining room, a small spa, a swimming pool and a firepit.

The camp will offer similar experiences to Hoanib Valley, including game drives to view oryx, springbok, kudu, zebra and rare desert-adapted elephants and giraffes (with a chance to see brown hyena and desert lion). Tracking of free-ranging black rhino, together with cultural immersions with the Himba tribe, are also on offer.

Natural Selection works in close partnership with the Sesfontein Conservancy to protect the fragile desert ecosystems of the region while creating meaningful opportunities for surrounding communities.
