The JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp has opened in the 45 000 acre Solio Game Reserve, Laikipia.
Solio Game Reserve is known for its role in rhino conservation and as home to one of Africa’s largest populations of black and white rhino alongside other wildlife.
The camp features 19 tented suites, including a two-bedroom suite, each with views of Mount Kenya, the Aberdare Mountains, nearby waterholes or the surrounding savannah. Designed by LW Design, the tents have roll-up canvas walls, spacious living areas, private decks, plunge pools and freestanding baths. Interiors feature furnishings and artworks sourced from Kenyan artisans, including Kitengela Glass, Safari Bronze and Ceramiqa.
Shared areas include a map room, library and games room. The retail boutique showcases contemporary Kenyan arts and crafts, including beadwork and textiles. There is a signature garden on site, which also serves as a dining setting for a multi-course experience showcasing freshly harvested produce. Mavuno is the camp’s signature restaurant with Ember Bar and Lounge offering a fireside setting for drinks and shared plates. A dedicated wine room offers tasting experiences as well as private dining. The camp also features a spa and fitness centre.
Activities include game drives as well as guided walking safaris, cycling excursions and birding led by expert guides. Night drives are also available. Guests can use professional Canon camera equipment with guidance from resident photographers.
Visits to the Solio Rhino Orphanage provide guests with insight into the conservation efforts that underpin the reserve where orphaned rhino calves and other wildlife are rehabilitated before being reintroduced into the conservancy.
