The new Maputo AFECC Gloria Hotel opened on October 4, on the Avenida Marginal seafront in the Mozambique capital.
The 258 rooms and suites, priced from US$217 per room per night, all have balcony views across Maputo Bay.
The hotel is at the centre of the new $300m MICE zone development in the heart of the city. It is a collaboration between the AFECC construction group, which operates two other hotels in Mozambique, and the Chinese Gloria Hotels & Resorts group, which is undertaking its first venture into Africa.
Strongly geared to events, the hotel has a conference hall to seat 2 500 delegates and a banqueting hall to accommodate 800. It is adjacent to the recently competed Joachim Chissano Convention Centre, which has capacity for a further 2 000 delegates.
Food and beverage facilities include six restaurants and bars. A Chinese cuisine outlet serves Cantonese and Anhui delicacies, there is an international buffet restaurant, a grill room and a restaurant serving ‘speciality cuisine’. The Jingya Xuan Tea lounge for just 30 people offers a selection of the finest Chinese teas, served according to traditional ritual. There’s a cocktail bar in the lobby area, as well as separate vintage wine and cigar bar.
Neighbouring the hotel’s car park is a new two-storey shopping mall with a 24m swimming pool, children’s pool, squash courts, billiard room, table tennis hall, gym and spa.
According to Sales and Marketing Manager, Daisy Shi, during the first year of operation, the hotel aims to encourage as many people as possible to sample the hospitality, cuisine and culture at the hotel.
