Over 46% of Tourism Update readers – polled in the ‘Outlook 2022’ survey earlier this month – are upbeat about the outlook for 2022 and expect to see some improvement in terms of bookings and recovery.
“We are hugely positive as we will be running at very high occupancy levels at our properties. 2021 saw average occupancy of 50% and we are expecting an average in excess of 70% for 2022 for the whole year,” said Toby Jermyn, Director of Pangolin International.
However, a big curve ball – which was highlighted by a number of respondents – and the reason for “cautious optimism” is ongoing fear and uncertainty in the market with the spectre of more unexpected travel bans and lengthy quarantines looming over the industry.
