People on the move: Travelport appoints new Regional Managing Director

Travelport has announced that Guido Verweij from the United Kingdom will take on the role of Regional Managing Director, Africa, based in Johannesburg.

Verweij is a Dutch national and holds a degree in Medicine from the University of Leuven in Belgium, an honours degree in Management and Systems from City University in the UK and an MBA from INSEAD in France and Singapore.

He will be reporting to Rabih Saab, President and Managing Director at Travelport Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Verweij will take up his new role from January. 

Travelport has also appointed Claudette Thorne as Acting Country Manager of Southern Africa from December 1.

Thorne replaces Robyn Christie, who has decided to leave Travelport at the end of the year to pursue other interests.

Anita Kongson has decided to leave Emirates Nairobi to pursue other options.

Emirates Nairobi is in the process of appointing a new Country Manager, however in the interim, Olga Pryimak, Regional Finance and Administration Manager will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the Nairobi office, and Nafisa Salim, Key Accounts Manager will co-ordinate issues related to sales.

Hilton Durban has appointed Janine Fourie as Executive Chef.
