PHINDA Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal has expanded with the inclusion of the 1 000-hectare Shotton Game Ranch. The merging, following the signing of a one-year agreement, is significant from a conservation point of view, says CC Africa. The Munyawana River, which flows through Phinda is an important source of fresh water for Lake St. Lucia, which is now fully protected as well as the floodplain at the confluence of the Munyawana and Mzinene Rivers. The new addition offers a diversity of vegetation, from riverine vegetation, acacia woodland, broadleaf woodland, Sand Forest, palm veld and floodplains. (Natalia Thomson) natalia@nowmedia.co.za
