Poachers sentenced for poisoning elephants

Three poachers have been sentenced to 15 years in prison after elephants were poisoned with cyanide in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force (ZCTF) reported.

Earlier this month, elephant carcasses were found in the park after poachers poisoned a drinking pool. To date, around 100 carcasses have been found, the ZCTF said. The organisation warned that at least two pools were contaminated and more animals are expected to die.
