SA Tourism appoints Acting CEO

SA Tourism has appointed Shamilla Chettiar as Acting CEO while current CEO Nombulelo Guliwe remains on suspension pending disciplinary procedure.

Chettiar, currently the Department of Tourism’s Deputy DG for Destination Development, is also one of the six members sitting on SA Tourism’s interim Board appointed in August last year.

Thandiwe Mathibela, SA Tourism’s GM for Global PR, Communications and Stakeholder Relations said Chettiar’s appointment, which follows the filling of the CFO, Chief Audit Executive and Chief Convention Bureau positions, will further strengthen the DMO’s executive leadership capacity and institutional stability.

SA Tourism has also advertised for the vacant COO and Chief Marketing Officer positions.

Mathibela said SA Tourism is continuing to work closely with industry partners, including the Tourism Business Council of South Africa, to “strengthen private-public collaboration” and advance the implementation of the Tourism Growth Partnership Plan endorsed by Cabinet last year.

“The SA Tourism Board remains committed to transparent governance and accountability,” Mathibela said.
