SAA is expected to report a loss of R250m, according to latest reports. Former ceo, Coleman Andrews, said the airline would post record profits exceeding those of R350m the previous year based on a turnover of R8,6bn. At the recent Sure Travel congress held at Spier Wine Estate, Stellenbosch in the Western Cape last week, the airline’s new ceo, Andre Viljoen, was at pains to explain that SAA was cash positive to the tune of R3bn, had assets worth R6bn and a total turnover of R13bn. The airline had no gearing, he said. (Mark Gray)
