An Australian tourist has survived falling into the Zambezi River after her bungee cord broke in Victoria Falls. Footage of the accident has been running on CNN, as well as many other international news stations.
Shearwater Adventures operates the jump at Victoria Falls Bridge, and while the company could not be reached for comment, Shearwater’s spokesperson, Clement Mukwasi , earlier told the Zimbabwe Standard that the organisation was shocked over the accident after 17 years of running more than 150 000 bungee jumps without incident.
Mukwasi added that Shearwater had withdrawn all cords from the batch which the snapped cord came from and new ones had been installed. “We take this exceptionally seriously and our objective now is to learn from this incident and review every component part of our operation to determine where we can further minimise the risk of bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge,” he said.
