A total shutdown of the rail network later this year will affect some of the Blue Train’s departures.
The National (Trains) Operations Centre has informed all rail operators of a total shutdown of its networks for rehabilitation of the rail line between Kimberley and De Aar in the Northern Cape. Preparations for the shutdown will commence on July 30 and last until August 8.
During this time rail operators (passenger or freight) will not be permitted to use these lines.
The Blue Train has engaged with the Operations Centre to seek alternative re-routing via Bloemfontein, however it has been confirmed that this line would also be affected.
The following Blue Train departures will be cancelled:
July 30: Pretoria to Cape Town; August 1: Cape Town to Pretoria; August 6: Pretoria to Cape Town; August 8: Cape Town to Pretoria.
The Blue Train can offer the following alternative dates (subject to availability):
July 25: Cape Town to Pretoria; August 13: Pretoria to Cape Town; August 15: Cape Town to Pretoria; August 20: Pretoria top Cape Town; August 29: Cape Town to Pretoria.
