Cabinet has officially approved the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s request to bid for the rights to host a Grand Prix at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand in 2027.
The announcement was made during a media briefing by Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who said the bid will cover three consecutive years and is fully backed by private sector funding, according to EWN.
In June, the circuit received confirmation that the Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) had accepted final design proposals to upgrade it to Grade 1 status – the highest standard required to host Formula 1.
