Tanzania sees arrivals, spend rise

Tanzania’s 2025 Exit Survey shows that the country has surpassed pre-pandemic international tourist arrivals. 

International tourist arrivals increased by 6.7% from 2.14 million in 2024 to 2.29 million in 2025 while tourism earnings grew by 13% year-on-year. Overall average expenditure rose by 19% from US$243 per person per night in 2024 to US$289 in 2025. 

The US, Italy and France were the leading source markets for mainland Tanzania while Italy, France and the UK were the leading markets in Zanzibar. 

Leisure and holidays remained the primary reason for visiting Tanzania, accounting for 64.6% of visits to mainland Tanzania and 92.9% of visits to Zanzibar.

The overall average length of stay was nine nights in Tanzania and six nights in Zanzibar. Main tourism activities were wildlife safaris, beach tourism, visiting friends and relatives and business. Consistently, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Stone Town, beaches and Tarangire continued to be the most visited attractions.
