Desert & Delta Safaris is launching an annual four-night, 100km ultra-trail adventure connecting Botswana’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Okavango Delta and the Tsodilo Hills.
With a fixed departure date of April 11, the Okavango to Tsodilo Ultra-Trail is targeted at trail runners, trekkers and adventure seekers. The experience is also available for tailor-made dates.
“We’ve spent a year plotting the route, testing the terrain and creating what we believe is one of the most exciting new ways to experience Botswana’s wilderness,” Desert & Delta said in a press statement.
The trail is split into four sections of between 20km and 40km with participants experiencing the Nxamaseri Channel and Okavango Panhandle, the arid Kalahari, a sleepout at Tsodilo Hills Expedition Camp, rock art tours, cultural experiences and an optional summit up Botswana’s highest peak, Male Hill. Three nights’ accommodation is provided at Nxamaseri Island Lodge. The trail will be led by an expert trail running guide, a qualified medic and support staff.
Every hosting of the ultra-trail adventure will raise funds to support local athletes.
“Our aim is to help recruit, train and fund athletes from communities around Tsodilo, create opportunities to set ambitious goals and achieve things never imagined possible,” Desert & Delta said.
