The US has downgraded its travel advisory for Mozambique in light of a more stable political climate following post-election protests in late 2024 and early 2025.
On June 16, the overall travel advisory level for the country was downgraded to Level 2: Exercise increased caution from the previous Level 3: Reconsider travel.
The Level 3 warning stemmed from violent unrest following the disputed victory of Daniel Chapo over opposition party leader Venâncio Mondlane in the October 2024 presidential elections.
Meanwhile, the Niassa Special Reserve – which has been subject to terrorist attacks in recent months – has been added to the Level 4: Do not travel advisory, joining the Cabo Delgado Province and certain northern districts in Nampula Province in this category.
