WITH Varig airlines flying four flights a week between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo as of this week, SAA has adapted its schedule from six flights to four flights a week between the destinations. Both airlines will codeshare on each other's flights. "We welcome Varig joining us on the South American route in a partnership bringing huge benefits to travellers between the two continents. South America is a huge market for us and daily flights between us boosts business opportunities and expands tourism," said SAA president and ceo, André Viljoen. The route between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo has shown tremendous growth, with trade between Brazil and South Africa increasing 151% from 1999 to 2003. Business travel between South Africa and Brazil has also shown steady and continued growth, as more and more people are travelling for meetings, incentives, congresses and events between the countries.
