Water expected to be restored to Pilgrim’s Rest

The burst water pipe was expected to be fixed on Wednesday.

Pilgrim’s Rest, Mpumalanga, has been without water for seven days due to a burst pipe. John Reinders from the Vine Hotel said on Wednesday that the pipe was expected to be fixed by the end of the day.

Sharon Paterson from Pilgrim’s Pantry said the burst water pipe had caused her to cancel a tour of 30 people as there were no toilets available for tourists to use. “Royal Hotel had a tour group of 110 French travellers last night, many of whom refused to pay due to the hotel having no water,” Paterson said on Wednesday.

Derick Mashego from Royal Hotel confirmed that members of the group refused to pay because there had been no water. However, he added that by 15h00 on Wednesday, the hotel had water again.

Paterson said Pilgrim’s Pantry was expecting a tour group of 45 people, which they could not afford to cancel. Paterson said she was forced to get water out of the river to use for the bathroom facilities.

Reinders said he had not been affected by the burst pipe and that the other properties in Pilgrim’s Rest were experiencing intermittent water supply.
