Zanzibar increases marine conservation fees

Zanzibar’s Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries has increased entry fees for marine conservation areas and marine protected areas from September 1.

According to a public notice, the fee adjustments apply to Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area, Menai Bay Conservation Area, Chumbe Island Coral Park, Changuu-Bawe Marine Conservation Area and the Pemba Channel Conservation Area.

Non-East African Community (EAC) adults (aged 16 years and older) are now required to pay US$10 per day (up from US$3). The entry fee for children between the ages of five and 15 is US$5 per day.

EAC citizens pay TZS5 000 (US$1.98) per adult and TZS2 500 (US$0.99) per child.

Non-EAC residents of Tanzania pay US$5 per adult per day and US$3 per child.

The Mnemba Island Marine Special Area has retained its existing entrance fees of US$25 per non-EAC adult and US$10 per child. EAC citizens continue to pay US$10 per adult and US$5 per child. Non-EAC residents of Tanzania pay US$12 per adult and US$10 per child.

Entry for all children below the age of five is free.

The entry fees are charged as an add-on to tour package prices.
