Air Namibia forced to cancel some domestic flights

SEVERAL of Air Namibia’s aircraft, used to operate domestic routes and leased from a Namibian company, have not met regulatory requirements set by the Department of Civil Aviation. In terms of the Directorate of Civil Aviation in Namibia, all Air Operator Certificates must be renewed annually and due to the non-compliance of these aircraft, certification has been refused. Domestic routes operated with these aircraft have been temporarily cancelled as a result. The airline has announced flights will be cancelled on the Windhoek/Ondangwa route on June 17 and 24. Only two services will operate between Windhoek and Mpacha on June 15 and 19. There will be no flights at all between Windhoek and Victoria Falls until June 23. The airline is urging all affected passengers to contact their nearest Air Namibia offices. For the interim period, Air Namibia has secured three B1900 aircraft from South Africa to operate its domestic routes. Air Operator Certificates were successfully renewed for all Air Namibia’s international and regional destinations. Sue Lewitton (suel@nowmedia.co.za)
