The Alexandra Township Art Gallery (TAG) is part of a project that looks to rebrand Alexandra as an art smart township and tourist attraction.

Vika Mjoka, Art Director at Alex TAG, said the idea behind the gallery was to showcase young talent and give tourists a feel of what life was like in a township life in South Africa. He said repositioning Alexandra as an ‘art smart’ township would encourage art and economic development.

The Art Smart Brand project is part of a 10-year plan that will later branch out to include performance art and film. The idea behind it is to involve the community of Alexandra in a positive way by creating opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.
