Botswana: Business as usual at luxury Delta camp following fire

Efforts are under way at Wilderness Safaris’ Vumbura Plains South Camp to save jackalberries burned in a recent fire.

A fire that broke out in early June at Wilderness Safaris’ Vumbura Plains South Camp in the Okavango Delta caused some damage to the main area.

The main area is currently being rebuilt and, as a result, Wilderness Safaris has closed three rooms during the restoration period.

The remaining three rooms of Vumbura Plains South Camp are still open and guests are all being hosted at Vumbura Plains North.

The reopening of South Camp is expected to be October 5.

Following the fire, Riaan van Zyl, an arborist and conservation forester, has been working hard to save five iconic jackalberries that were burnt in the fire. To read more about the conservation efforts, read here.
