Tawanda Makaya has resigned with immediate effect as Managing Director of Cresta Hotels.
Makaya’s resignation comes after he was served with immediate suspension together with Chief Financial Officer, Valentine Mganga, in early October this year, pending an investigation into irregularities involving the CFO. It’s alleged that funds totalling P2.3 million (€203 000) are missing.
Maria Nthebolan, Chairperson of Cresta Marakanelo, told Tourism Update that Makaya took a personal decision to resign last week. She paid tribute to his past efforts on behalf of the hotel chain.
‘’Mr Makaya dedicated over two decades of service to Cresta and has contributed significantly to the growth of the company. He leaves it profitable and a force to reckon with in the hospitality industry,’’ she said.
Investigations regarding the ‘’irregularities’’ involving Mganga are said to be progressing and are expected to be completed soon.
Makaya declined to comment on the issue when contacted.
The process of identifying a new MD and CFO will commence shortly. Until then Glenn Stutchbury is the Acting MD and Chipo Mandela the Acting CFO.
