Breaking news: Severe UK weather disrupts SA-bound flights

British Airways confirms that its two Johannesburg-bound flights from Londonw Heathrow on January 6 did not depart due to severe weather in the UK. The flights bound for Cape Town still operated last night, but were delayed, confirms spokesperson Stephen Forbes.

Both flights departing Johannesburg to Heathrow tonight have also been cancelled as a result.

SAA and Virgin Atlantic's flights appear to have departed albeit with later than expected arrival times in Johannesburg.

According to the Acsa website, Virgin Atlantic's VS601 is expected to arrive at 11h39, while SAA's SA237 will arrive at 12h04. SA235 will arrive at 08h44.

Severe weather in the UK has been affecting flights in and out of British airports, with Gatwick announcing yesterday it was closing a runway and flights suspended out of Luton, Birmingham and Southampton, or delayed out of Heathrow, for brief periods.
