South African Airways (SAA) has resumed operations on its Johannesburg to Washington DC route.
The airline said this decision came after constant liaison with relevant agencies in the US.
“Based on the forecast, weather conditions are expected to have subsided at the time when the aircraft arrives in Washington DC,” said a statement by the airline.
The flight departed OR Tambo International Airport at 01h00 this morning (October 30) and is expected to arrive in Washington at around 13h20 (Washington DC time).
SAA said it will deploy a bigger aircraft in order to accommodate those passengers whose flights had been cancelled as a result of the storm.
“SAA will monitor the situation and will resume other operations between South Africa and the US as soon as conditions are deemed safe for air travel. SAA would like to once more apologise to its customers for any inconvenience caused by these flight cancellations,” continued the statement.
