Cathay announces further capacity cuts

After cancelling a number of Johannesburg flights to Hong Kong last week, Cathay Pacific will also cut its Cape Town-Hong Kong service.

Following the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent drop in market demand, the carrier has announced capacity cuts across its network, with a spokesperson highlighting that, based on demand, there has been capacity rationalisation for its services from South Africa.

“Currently the situation is dynamic and evolving constantly,” she said, noting that Cathay Pacific was implementing these actions as and when they were required and was hoping to resume normal operations soon.
