Comair to bid for African national carrier

Comair is expected to submit a proposal to Botswana to take over the national carrier, Air Botswana.

Comair wants equity in and control of the airline, says Erik Venter, CEO of Comair. He is quoted in Moneyweb as saying: “We’d even look at a management contract, but it would have to be on the basis that we run a large amount of it from Comair to get economies of scale.”

Comair previously pulled out of a bidding round for Air Botswana in 2008, which failed to attract successful suitors.

Comair saw a 129% increase in profit during the period July 1 to December 31, 2016 compared with the corresponding period in 2015.
