Comment of the week – tourism routes not enough

This week’s comment relates to an article that asked whether developing tourism routes was enough for ‘forgotten provinces’ to attract more international tourists as well as the domestic market.

Bloemfontein-based tour operator, Tony Horn, said the following:

“Though I believe that tourism routes are productive, there are many cases where the attractions on these routes are not worthwhile to visit. In some cases, the brochures or websites offering these routes are outdated and give incorrect information.

“The attraction is either closed, run down or not signposted. Until we get our attractions to a standard where it would be worthwhile to bring our clients, I am afraid that the forgotten provinces will remain just that....forgotten.”
