Franschhoek hotel closes after floods

The Last Word Franschhoek, in the Western Cape, was completely flooded during the recent torrential rains. The hotel has closed for reconstruction and is scheduled to reopen in April 2014.

During the rains, all the bedrooms, public areas and kitchen were under water.

“The property was fully booked and all the bedrooms were occupied at the time of the disaster,” said Nicky Coenen, group GM of The Last Word Intimate Hotels. “We are, however, happy to report that neither staff nor guests suffered any injury whatsoever and that under stressful circumstances our management team at The Last Word Franschhoek handled the situation with extreme professionalism.”

“The Last Word management team thanks trade partners, fellow hoteliers and guesthouse owners in Franschhoek for their remarkable support during this distressing time,” the group said in a statement.
