THE final phase of the R43m upgrade of George Airport has been completed.
The airport now has an additional car-rental parking area and the existing car-rental facilities have been moved outside of the building. The actual footprint of the airport has been enlarged and it now boasts a new arrivals terminal and a bigger departure hall. Facilities for two additional business lounges have been constructed as well as more check-in and airline operator counters.
The expansion is due to the expected increase in passenger numbers. It has been forecast that 998 396 passengers will use the airport in 2012. The airport’s upgrade started in 2004.
