SATSA is formally engaging with SANParks regarding the sudden implementation of indemnity forms for visitors to Table Mountain National Park after the new measure resulted in congestion and extended waiting times at entry points.
Through SATSA Vice-Chair Rachel Nxele (also a SANParks Board member), concerns have been raised that the measure was introduced without prior consultation, leaving operators and visitors insufficiently prepared.
“In our engagement, we have also raised the environmental implications of paper-based indemnities and the operational burden placed on tour operators who would ordinarily need to collect and capture the required visitor information in advance. Given the short notice of implementation, this was not feasible, creating avoidable pressure on guides, operators and park staff,” SATSA said in a statement.
“We have requested urgent clarification and are advocating for practical, environmentally responsible and operationally workable solutions that support visitor safety and a seamless tourism experience,” SATSA said, adding that they await feedback from SANParks.
