Kerzner International Holdings Limited will assume management of the Hospitality Division of Shamwari Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, effective April 1. The reserve is owned by Investment Corporation of Dubai.
In addition to managing the Hospitality Division, Kerzner will oversee sales of Shamwari Air, the reserve’s private charter service.
Shamwari becomes part of Kerzner’s Rare Finds portfolio. The 25 000 hectare reserve comprises seven lodges and is focused on wildlife conservation, community engagement and responsible tourism.
“South Africa is where the Kerzner story began and it remains the heartbeat of our DNA. The addition of Shamwari Private Game Reserve to our Rare Finds collection marks a significant milestone as we deepen our commitment to this extraordinary destination,” says Philippe Zuber, Kerzner International CEO.
As part of the expanded mandate, Shamwari Air will be integrated into Kerzner’s commercial platform. The service operates direct, on-demand flights from Cape Town and OR Tambo International Airport with flight times of under two hours from Cape Town and just over two hours from Johannesburg. Private lounge access is available at both airports.
Joe Cloete, Shamwari Private Game Reserve CEO, says: “We at Shamwari Private Game Reserve are thrilled to be included in the Rare Finds portfolio of Kerzner International. This endorses our continuous commitment to adding value to our guest experience as we grow the Shamwari brand in the international market.”
Cloete, who has been with the reserve for 34 years, will continue to lead the property under Kerzner’s management.
