Legacy stalwart retires

Group Operations Director of the Legacy Hotels & Resorts Group, Gert Brumme, is set to retire this month after 46 years in hospitality.

Born and raised in Namibia and schooled in Cape Town, Gert obtained his Hotel Management Diploma at hotel school in Johannesburg, securing a bursary saw him complete his studies and his in-service in Amsterdam.

In 1984, Gert joined the Legacy Hotels & Resorts Group, then known as Stocks Hotels & Resorts, and is currently responsible for the operations of its eleven properties. Well respected for his immense knowledge of hotel and timeshare, he changed the way Legacy did business when he first introduced fully inclusive packages at the Kwa Maritane and Bakubung Lodges in the Pilanesberg.

“Meeting our guests’ expectations is critical; making sure you deliver on the marketing campaign. Value is not found in crystal glasses or fancy caviar but in the smiles of staff who are passionate about giving their guests an incredible experience,” says Brumme.

“Gert’s long tenure at Legacy is a testament to his incredible staff relations and the unrivalled leadership role he played. Known and admired by his colleagues for being a nurturing leader, he is always happy to share his knowledge and educate those around him,” says Neil Yates, MD of Legacy.
