LIVINGSTONE International Airport (LVI) in Zambia has undergone several upgrades, due to be complete by the end of April. The project has seen the extension of the 2,3km runway to 3km. This means the airport can handle direct overseas flights and will no longer only be accessible to foreign tourists via hubs like OR Tambo International. Further upgrades include improvements to water, sewerage and electrical systems, installation of a new security perimeter fence and upgraded meteorological, navigation, fire and emergency services. The airport has also built a new apron, taxiway, access roads and car parks. Nationwide Airlines, SAA and BA Comair have services to the airport with an average of three regional flights daily. Livingstone is 15km from the Victoria Falls and has been operational since 1952. Tessa Blane (tessab@nowmedia.co.za)
