New Delta development to offer beekeeping experience

Beekeeping will be offered at a new development planned for the Okavango Delta.

A proposed new development planned for the Okavango Delta will offer a combination of beekeeping and ecotourism.

Moatlhodi Judge Sango, the pioneer of Saguni African Safaris, is behind the initiative, planned for the Khwai Area of NG19 in the eastern Okavango Delta.

Ndobao Lokae, the environmental assessment practitioner handling the assessment told Tourism Update that plans included tented accommodation, a camp site and business operations infrastructure. The apiary will comprise 20 beehives and associated infrastructure.

Lokae said: “The construction was expected to start this December. However, there have been objections to the project by other stakeholders where the project will be developed, which should be fully addressed before we continue.”

Tented accommodation will comprise 10 luxury en-suite Meru-style tents on decks, accommodating a maximum of 20 guests. Facilities will include reception and dining areas, a lounge and a swimming pool. A campsite with full ablution facilities will host a maximum of 24 campers.
