People on the move: CEO of Imperial Car Rental Division resigns

Dawn Nathan-Jones has work at Imperial Car Rental for 35 years.

Dawn Nathan-Jones, CEO of Imperial Car Rental Division, which operates the brands Europcar and Tempest, will resign at the end of the year.

Nathan-Jones began her career with Imperial Car Rental in Durban in 1980. She was appointed to the Car Rental Board in 1986 and thereafter as CEO of Imperial Car Rental in 1999. During her tenure as CEO, the business has grown from a fleet of 3 000 and a staff complement of 350, to a fleet of 20 000 and a staff complement of 1 350.

Under her leadership, the successful rebranding of Imperial Car Rental to Europcar was completed in 2009, and she has overseen nine acquisitions and a number of successful mergers.

Corné Venter, current CEO of Imperial Auto Pedigree and Imperial Auto Body, will take over as CEO of Imperial Car Rental division, says Lydall. 

Twelve Apostles Hotel Executive Director, Horst Frehse, will retire in December.

Following a career in the hospitality industry, which spanned over 40 years, he leaves in place a competent management team led by Michael Nel, who took over as GM when Frehse was promoted to Executive Director in April 2014, and Deputy GM and Food and Beverage Manager, Gavin Ferreira.

Frehse has worked in leading hotels in Hamburg, Munich, Geneva, Namibia, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Paarl. He held managerial positions at the five-star Grande Roche Hotel; Singita in the Kruger National Park; Singita Grumeti Reserves in the Serengeti, Tanzania; and Asara Wine Estate & Hotel in Stellenbosch before joining the Red Carnation Hotel Collection in December 2010.

SA Express CEO, Inati Ntshanga, was elected Chairman of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) at the industry body’s 45th annual general assembly, which was held at Fancourt in George earlier this month. AASA members also elected Comair CEO, Erik Venter, as the association’s Deputy Chairman.

Margaret Mpengula has joined the City Lodge Hotel Group as Sales Executive for Government and Corporate Business, based at the group’s Johannesburg head office. She was previously with Azusa Financial Services in a sales and marketing capacity and also has a background in the travel industry through travel agency and airline experience.

After being with the Protea Hotel Parktonian for 13 years in various positions, Phumlani Zimane has been promoted from Sales Executive to Key Accounts Manager. His new portfolio will allow him to focus on all sectors of government.

Skywise has appointed Faizal Motlekar as Co-chairperson and Tabassum Qadir as the President of the airline. Motlekar will jointly chair the position with J. Malik, who previously shared the role with Qadir.
