People on the move: The Twelve Apostles Executive Director to retire

Horst Frehse retires as Executive Director.

Horst Frehse, Executive Director at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, is retiring after 45 years in the hotel industry.

He started his hotel career in 1970 at the Hotel School Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, Germany. Frehse has been instrumental in The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa’s success over the past five years.

“It is with great appreciation and wonderful memories that I will reminisce about my career as a hotelier in the years to come. I would like to thank the many amazing guests, friends, ‘guests-who-became-friends’ and many hotel colleagues who have contributed over the years to the fulfilled, exciting hotel life and career I was so privileged to enjoy,” said Frehse.  

The Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa (PHASA) has appointed new Chief Executive, Tharia Unwin, effective January 1, 2016.  She takes over from Adri Kitshoff, who joins Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA).

Stan Burger will take over the Presidency of PHASA from Hermann Meyeridricks, who finished his two-year term at the conclusion of PHASA’s 38th annual general meeting in November this year. 

Haute Cabrière restaurant in Franschhoek has a new Head Chef, Dennis Strydom.

Strydom trained at Queen’s Hotel in Oudtshoorn before taking up chef positions at boutique hotels and five-star lodges across the Garden Route and Eastern Cape.

Beachside resort, De Bakke Santos in Mossel Bay, will be under new management from December 1.

Following a public tender process, a 30-year lease of De Bakke Santos Resort was awarded to Colosseum Hotel Management Company by the Mossel Bay Municipality.  Colosseum Hotel Management Company is part of the Western Cape hospitality and tourism group, Singer Group.

Under the new management, the resort will undergo various development phases to upgrade the resort and its existing facilities. There are plans to build a conference centre and heated swimming pool in the future.
