Protea Hotel Balalaika celebrates 2010 countdown

With just weeks to go before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the soccer hype caught up with The Protea Hotel Balalaika Sandton when they launched their own soccer mascot recently, Sinqobile.

Kicking off a huge soccer ball, Sinqobile has taken up pride of place in front of the hotel. The more than two metre tall beaded Sinqobile was produced by a local artist in keeping with the ‘Proudly South African’ campaign.

The unveiling ceremony of the Balalaika mascot was celebrated among much fanfare by staff wearing soccer jerseys of the various countries participating in the world cup.

General Manager Jörg Zwinscher said Sinqobile meaning ‘we have conquered’ was the perfect name for their mascot.
