SA Tourism confirms new Board

Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille has appointed 11 members of the SA Tourism Board for a three-year term, nearly a year after she dissolved the previous Board.

The appointments were gazetted on August 11 in terms of the Tourism Act. The new Board comprises:

  • Akona Nobulali Matsau as Deputy Chairperson
  • Sandika Daya
  • Mamochekoane Ramashole
  • Karen Smit
  • Hazel Thulisile Xulu
  • Carol Kholeka Zama
  • Anwar Jappie
  • Khomotso Brian Mosehla
  • Luyanda Mpahlwa
  • Graham Ian Wood
  • Tasneem Carrim as the Department of Tourism’s representative

However, the Board’s leadership structure is not yet complete. De Lille said the appointment of the Chairperson would be published in the Government Gazette once Cabinet concurrence is obtained.

The appointments effectively replace the interim structure that has overseen SA Tourism since August 2025 when De Lille dissolved the previous Board.

Of those interim members, Zama and Mosehla have been retained on the new permanent Board.

The new Board will also inherit an executive leadership team that has undergone significant changes this year.

Sechaba Motsieloa was appointed Interim CEO in May, replacing Shamilla Chettiar whose period as Acting CEO came to an end.

SA Tourism also appointed Sithembile Ndaba as Chief Marketing Officer, effective April 1, and Ismail Dockrat as Chief Operating Officer, effective May 1.
