Safety and security is the greatest hindrance to inbound tourism to South Africa, according to Tourism Update readers. Responding to our latest poll, 39% of readers selected this as the biggest obstacle. Expensive airline ticket pricing remains a major concern, with 34% of readers highlighting this as the biggest barrier. This was followed by political uncertainty (11%), visa issues (9%), hesitancy about long-haul travel (5%) and insufficient destination marketing (3%).
